This is... read more the first time I visited Rochester and it was recommended as it is very historic and had a link to Charles Dickens. The tour lasted 2 hours and the guide took us around the centre of Rochester, including the Six Poor Traveller House, Guildhall Museum, outside Rochester Cathedral, Rochester Castle and along the High Street. There were many ornate buildings in the centre, and they dated back to Georgian/Victorian/Edwardian times. It was very delightful to hear about Rochester's link to Canterbury and London, and educational about the Dickensian era. We also went past the Baptist Church and saw the River Medway, including the castle walls that surround Rochester. For someone who has not visited Rochester before, the tour provides an insight into Rochester and its history - I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt 2 hours was sufficient to get a feel of the place. The weather was decent; just about right for this time of year 🙂 I would definitely re-visit Rochester and perhaps go into the Guildhall and Huguenot Museum for an explore.   Definitely worth attending - Terry was extremely informative, but the tour lasted 30 minutes more than I would have preferred. His delivery was good and he showed a good sense of humour.

His passion for Rochester and Dickens clearly shone through. He took us to places I never knew existed, despite having lived in the vicinity for 3 years!!

His tour was a mine of interesting facts, amusing ancedotes and information.

It was very well researched, beautifully composed and at times poetic, with lots of links to Charles's work.

Our guide was even dressed very elegantly, in keeping with the Dickensian theme.

Jonathan imparted secrets of the city of Rochester in a warm and very engaging, personable manner.

A visit to Rochester really is not complete without a tour by the City of Rochester Society Guided Walks.

Simply unmissable! I hope to be back next year with more people!!
