Following on from last month’s fantastic news regarding the Heritage Lottery Funding application success for Eastgate House in Rochester High Street, I thought I’d quickly share with you part of the exciting restoration plans.

Unfortunately, the Tudors weren’t too hot on providing access and Sir Peter Buck was certainly no different. Eastgate House has always had an issue regarding access and even the raised threshold can present a substantial barrier to pushchairs and wheelchairs alike. Up until now, the ground floor has been as far as disabled visitors can explore. But the plans submitted to HLF make provision for an extension to the northern part of the house. This will include a lift that will allow full access to the 1st and 2nd floors of the house – great news for those that have previously been denied the pleasure of looking at the magnificent plaster ceilings in person.
